WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT, YOU BRING ABOUT: the Quick, Down-to-Earth Explanation for LOA Beginners, and Possibly a Surprise for Advanced Zen people

We’ve all heard “What you think about, you bring about,” but has it been explained in simple, practical terms?

Here’s a quick version that has something for everyone, whether you’re a Law of Attraction virgin or you have a ZIP (Zen Inner Peace) PhD and have been visualizing and manifesting for years.

Whatever you’re thinking about, is going to become larger in your life or be attracted into your life. It is going to happen whether you believe this or not. It is simply a physical law of nature, like gravity. Gravity happens no matter what people (or apples) believe about it. This law (Law of Attraction) involves energy and scientists call it Quantum Physics. So if you’re agonizing over a problem and thinking about it, the problem will become worse.

Instead of focusing on the details of the problem, try this:

Write a positive, present tense, description of your life that is the exact opposite of the problem.

For example, if there’s a person in your life who is dragging you down, instead of wondering how to remove this person from your life or get them to stop being mean — all negative details which you’ll magnify and attract by thinking about them — write something purely positive like this:

“I am surrounded by healthy, happy, positive people. My friendships are uplifting. My friends and I give and take with each other in a healthy, balanced way. My friends see, enjoy, and appreciate me for who I am.”

[DISCLAIMER:  Sometimes we need to think about a problem in order to get clarity and brainstorm solutions. During times when we’re not thinking about a problem in a constructive, solution-focused way, we don’t need to think about it at all.]

Is this airy fairy unrealistic nonsense? No, and I have proof. In 2018 I realized I was being a hypocrite, teaching about positive thinking and Law of Attraction, while at the same time, complaining about my ex-husband’s crappy co-parenting and its negative impact on our child. So I wrote a description (aka visualization) of the ideal relationship between my daughter and her father.

I also wrote a few sentences about there being cooperation between Mark and me, with a shared goal of creating peace and happiness for our daughter. It was 100% positive. I read it out loud every day.

Very soon, Mark started acting differently when we talked! I was quiet around him, as always. But inside, I didn’t feel bitter around him. I wasn’t secretly thinking about all the ways his clueless, immature narcissistic behaviour hurt our daughter. I was focusing my thoughts on positive, according to the principles of Law of Attraction. He started being more reliable for our daughter and he was less negative when they were together!

I wrote in the visualization that when we were together, the vibration in the air was relaxed. I did this for my daughter’s sake. She’s an empath and she suffered from all the unspoken tension in the air. The feeling when we were together, when Mark came to pick up our daughter for a visit, completely shifted. It was wild. It was far beyond what I imagined would happen. I did not expect my written visualization to change the BEHAVIOUR and ATTITUDE of THE OTHER PERSON.

You could argue that my attitude and behaviour changed first and this caused his to change. It could be that is part of it, but I have examined this carefully and the only way I changed, was to say thank you twice or three times, instead of once, if he did anything helpful. I think also, I was not radiating anger into the air. Slight changes in my behaviour and the energy I radiated could also be part of the Law of Attraction at work.

I’m not saying problem people in your life will change. Maybe they will simply go OUT of your life, for some reason.  Maybe the Universe will remove them.

As you read your positive description/visualization out loud, don’t worry about how to solve the problem or bring about this new situation you have described. The Universe works in very creative ways, sometimes very quickly. The problem could be solved tomorrow! In a way you could never have imagined.

Don’t worry about the “how” or the details for now. By picturing the positive description of what you want, and imagining it a reality, and feeling strong positive emotions about it, you will attract this into your life and the details will start to take care of themselves. Actions and solutions will become clear. Help will come. In their book, “Ask and It Is Given,” Esther and Jerry Hicks call this “pre-paving.” You are paving the way for the chain of events that will make your wish a reality. The more strongly you describe and feel it, and pre-pave the way FIRST, the more EASY the followup details and necessary actions will be.

Your most important and only task right now, is to imagine vividly, the description of what you want. Write it down and read it out loud every day, and “emotionalize” it (Brian Tracy’s term).  FEEL the positive emotions you’d feel if it were a reality right now.

You have nothing to lose by trying it. You may be happily surprised.
