TAKE A SECRET VACATION FROM STRESS EVERY DAY

This quick, enjoyable exercise can give you a much-deserved break from stress and will help you cultivate a habit of focusing on positive thoughts and emotions. 

Each morning, gift yourself a secret, ten-minute vacation from negativity. The world will survive without you worrying about it for ten minutes. Do these two things:

A. Allow yourself to feel only joy as you think of five things you’re grateful for, that day.

B. Speak the “Visualization of My Beautiful Life.” As you say these words out loud, concentrate on their meaning, imagine they’re TRUE RIGHT NOW, and feel the deeply peaceful emotion this would give you.

NOTE: I wrote the version of this exercise specifically for people who are going through a high conflict divorce, but as you’ll see, it applies to any kind of stress. There is one sentence in the visualization that refers to divorce and I have moved this to the end of the visualization here, so that people who are not going through a divorce can easily choose not to read it.  For people who are going through a divorce, I have followed the divorce sentence with three sentences repeated from the visualization. This is because I like visualizations to end with the most uplifting thoughts.

Visualization of My Beautiful Life

I have more wisdom and strength than I ever realized. 

My perception of reality is so clear now.

Knowing I can trust my instincts now gives me a calm, centred feeling.

My home is financially secure, and I have so much peace of mind living here. 

I have beautiful connections with like-minded, psychologically healthy, positive, and uplifting people now.

I am grateful for everything that has led me to this point on my journey.

I feel like I’m living in a whole new world where everything is easy and filled with joy and beauty.

Life flows easily for me now.

My life is peaceful and free.

Everyone who helped me when I left my ex deeply appreciated my calm, constructive attitude, open mind and willingness to learn, helpfulness in giving them what they needed from me, and my efforts in preparing documentation and evidence. 

I feel like I’m living in a whole new world where everything is easy and filled with joy and beauty.
